1. The extent to which special services departments targeted toward recruitment and retention of minority students result in isolation of such students must be examined. In a diverse institution, options must be provided for social and academic interaction which are not drawn upon ethnic lines.
2. All faculty members must reassume their responsibilities for academic advising of all students, and must become partners with student services units in programs directed toward the retention of Hispanic students.
3. The University's recruitment efforts should be undertaken in a systemwide manner which incorporates several partnerships: with K-I2 schools, with parents, and with other segments of higher education. Public information campaigns should be developed which help the Hispanic population in general to understand the benefits of higher education and the reality of opportunity for it in California.
