About the Exhibit

exhibit banner

This exhibit will commemorate and document Cesar Chavez's contribution to the California labor movement and his dedication to the use of nonviolence in social justice causes. The exhibit will include mixed media from UCLA's collections and materials from special collections at UC Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley. We plan to coordinate with the Chicano Studies Research Center and the Cesar Chavez Interdisciplinary Studies Center on a gala opening reception and a possible film and lecture series to coincide with the exhibit. The year 1996 marks the 30th anniversary of the United Farm Workers Union march from Delano to Sacramento and the beginning of the table grape boycott. Cesar Chavez was and is an inspiration and positive role model to most Latinos and especially to Chicanos.
